Pregnancy

We are at your side, we listen, and we support you with individual care, practical advice and antenatal care that looks at the whole picture.

With you from the very beginning

Pregnancy is a journey of its own — full of joy and new experiences, but also full of questions and change. What matters in this time is being well informed and warmly looked after. We are beside you with our experience, our time and a great deal of sensitivity.

Our aim is that you feel safe, in charge and at ease. Through one-to-one consultations, whole-person antenatal care and birth preparation, we help you build trust in your body and prepare for the birth as well as you possibly can.

Whether you have questions, need support, or simply want to feel well looked after — we are here for you.

All midwifery services are covered by German statutory health insurance.

During pregnancy

First contact and initial meeting

The first meeting commits you to nothing. It is your chance to get to know us and the birth centre.

A thorough health history

To care for you well we need a thorough health history. We want to learn as much about you as we can, so that anything that might get in the way can be addressed during pregnancy rather than during the birth.

That conversation also gives us insight into your own story, which helps us support you properly and offer help where it is needed.

You can download the four-page health history form to print and fill in. Please allow about an hour for the appointment itself.

Consultation

Pregnant and full of questions? You will always find an open ear here, quick help and advice that works towards solutions.

If you wish, we are reachable around the clock during pregnancy too. Consultations take place in person at the midwifery practice in the birth centre, or by video call if an appointment at short notice is not possible.

Antenatal care

Antenatal appointments include:

Appointments usually take place every four weeks, then fortnightly from week 32 and weekly from week 38 — more often if needed.

Antenatal appointments are an offer, not an obligation. You decide how often you come and who you see. Every finding is recorded in your Mutterpass and talked through with you.

The German maternity guidelines cover: blood pressure, urine check (sugar, protein, blood, leukocytes), vaginal pH, blood sample (not at every appointment), fundal height, your baby's position, heartbeat (from week 8 or 9), your baby's movements, and checks for oedema and varicose veins.

We also talk about changes, any discomforts and how you are feeling in general. Please bring the completed questionnaire to every appointment — you can download it from this website.

Allow about an hour for each appointment — that time belongs entirely to you and your baby. Your partner is of course always welcome. You can have your antenatal appointments with us as midwives or with your gynaecologist.

Help with pregnancy discomforts or (early) contractions

For pregnancy discomforts we offer a range of options and whole-person treatments:

Antenatal classes

In a group with other pregnant women and couples, you prepare together for the birth and for the time that follows.

Over 14 hours — seven or eight evenings, or a weekend course — you learn a great deal about how birth unfolds naturally and how you can best support that process.

You learn to trust yourself, your body and your baby, and how to prepare as well as you can. In the couples course you practise together how your partner can support you best.

You will learn breathing exercises, massage and birthing positions, and find out more about that remarkable organ the placenta and how it nourishes your baby.

You will also prepare for those first weeks with your newborn. And a good deal more besides.

Extra support when a pregnancy needs it
